A life of service. A mission rooted in experience.
Detra Davis is a passionate community servant, military veteran, and founder of The Move-In Mission Project, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping traditional and non-traditional students of all ages begin their next chapter with dignity, comfort, and confidence.
Detra’s passion for this mission is rooted in her own life experiences. As a divorced mother raising two young children while serving in the military, she understood firsthand the challenges of building a home from the ground up. Gathering household essentials for herself and her children was a journey that required determination, sacrifice, and perseverance. Later, helping her children and family members prepare for college opened her eyes to just how overwhelming and costly it can be to establish a home away from home.
Through her continued service to the community, Detra recognized that many graduating high school seniors, college students, and military personnel transitioning into a new season of life face similar challenges. She saw an opportunity to turn personal experience into a meaningful purpose.
The Move-In Mission Project, Inc. was born from a simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves the opportunity to start their next chapter with the essentials needed to feel at home.
Through this mission, Detra is committed to easing the burden of starting over, moving forward, and pursuing new opportunities.
A true servant at heart, Detra continues to give her time, energy, and compassion to serving others. Her vision is to ensure that no student or service member has to navigate a new beginning without support, encouragement, and access to the household essentials that help turn a living space into a home.
